Trail conditions not sounding so good lately at Gore. Thinking about central Vermont, Pico or MRG instead.

The lift is great. I had the whole thing to myself today. The trail to get to it from the base is a P.I.T.A., but at least it keeps the crowds and snowboarders out. The one trail open from the lift was a lot like twister, but less crowded. Maybe a little steeper in places.

Read all the hype about these great slides, how they are the greatest trails in the east, and how they make Whiteface the grnarliest mountain of all time. Was wondering when they will open.

The truth is that Gore always opens with what is essentially 1 or 2 trails, regardless of how favorable snowmaking temperatures have been. Wild Air will likely be open Thanksgiving weekend and it will be icy, crowded, rocky, and dangerous. The best we can hope for is that Cloud and Hawkeye...

No, not asking if and when they will open. Sorry to dissapoint. My question: Were the Slides at Whiteface created by snow slides/avalanches or by rock slides (summer)? I think it's rock slides, but not sure. Do they ever slide on their own in winter (not human triggered)?
