slides

I'm sitting here at the office, remembering last April 14, questions popping up:

- have there been years when slides were not officially open at all?

- when did slides become part of the skiable terrain?

appreciate help.

I think they opened them in 2001. They have been open every year since then albiet there were a few years that they opened for a day or two during the middle of the week.

thanks, man.

I started skiing Whiteface in 2001 as well, but did not pay much attention to Slides until few years ago.

I'm aiming for April 4 for my first visit to Whiteface. What are the chances the Slides might open by then? I know weather-dependent...

Tuff to say, but if you hit it on a warm day where it corns up your chances are pretty good. For someone to come to WF for their first time and have the Slides open would be a stroke of luck indeed.

Buy a lottery ticket if that happens. 8)

Is it a day to day thing like that? I mean given how consistently cool it's been, will a single warm day soften it enough, or do they need to "cook" for a few days? Fingers and toes are crossed.

Are you just going to do a day trip?
Planning on skiing 2 or 3 days should increase your chances

Then when they do open, they are only open for a couple of hours.

What do you all think - will they have to do the silver rating (shovels and beacons), or can they just go gold?

They open 10-2, so food and liquids a must so you don't have to come out. I'm thinkin all gold.

Gold for sure. No avi problem in there barring any significant new snow accumulations. Just need a few days of warm temps and sunshine to soften things up.

I saw a few patrolers checking out the Slides on Tue. I might be wrong, but I think there 'might' be ski patrol training on the Slides this weekend....again, just a rumor on my part.
..looks like today will be a real good ski day!!!
