ever hear of a tree well? i came across this yesterday and thought i'ld post it for everyone's safety benefit.
everyone should read it, esp. those who are woods people, backcountry or out west skiers/knuckle draggers.
make sure you inform your kids. something like this happened to me on the twister trail once(not in trees) and i almost couldn't get out.

also, any and ALL woods or backcountry people, snowshoers, crosscountry skiers, hikers should clip a whistle on the outside of their jacket. if you get immobilized and can't get out of the woods, you will soon go hoarse/lose your voice from yelling for help. this also dehydrates and exhausts you. but you can blow a whistle for a very long time. this is an idea i learned from the ADK club and thought it made good sense.
again, inform your kids, get them a whistle, while it's on your mind. they may not ski woods now, but when they get older you can bet their friends will take them there.
